The Third Year – The Perfect Essay
The third year is when things start to become quite serious. You have thoughts of finals pressing upon you throughout the year, on top of a workload that isn’t accurately revealed by the number of essays produced. The first term and a half is on Shakespeare who, it turns out, is quite good. Other than this you have two pieces of course work: the Special Author in the first term, and the Special Topic in the second. I chose Chaucer and Romantic Theory respectively.
Somehow I only produced 7 essays during this year and, I imagine due to greater experience and less pressure, they are all quite a bit better than the previous year. Only the essay on the First Tetralogy of Shakespeare is slightly dud. The rest of the essays are among my favourites, with particular fondness for the essay on Romantic Theory.
